I get asked all the time, “You’re always traveling, do you EVER work?” And the short answer is YES. I do work. But here’s the thing. I don’t have a traditional “job” in the sense of a 9-5. Have you ever heard the saying “Do what you love and find a way to get paid for it”? In today’s age it’s so easy to earn money (but it doesn’t happen overnight) once you learn the ins and outs. I believe we all have a ‘design’ type and once you learn your design, your creative genius will just start pouring out of you. When I say creative I don’t mean someone who draws or paint (though if you do that keep on!) I mean someone who thinks outside the box, doesn’t do what everyone else is doing, has new, innovative and unique ideas etc. My design is to follow my gut, what excites me? If it’s not a HELL YES it’s a big NOPE. I’ve done this my whole life and only now recently discovered this is how I’m meant to live (freeing) by asking “Does this excite me?” So back to the point of this post, I’ve found a way to monetize my creative passions (writing, teaching, websites, designing etc) and overtime started earning an income on my passion alone. I won’t teach you exactly what I did because my way won’t be your way (remember we all have a different design) but I can inspire and show you how you can turn your passions into passive income.
I have SO much more to say on this topic. But here is round 1. I had 20 mins til landing time on the plane and was called to write quickly.
In the next few years we are going to see big changes in the way corporate jobs operate (they’re already changing). The old way of doing things no longer works…go to school, get a degree, maybe get a decent job, work your tail off to buy a house, start a family, then keep working your tail off to pay off your house, then keep working your tail off to afford a family…when does it stop? That doesn’t sound like a good life to me.. When do you get to enjoy any of it??? At the end of your life? No thanks.
To be honest, I’ve had that same thought since my early twenties, “I don’t wanna work until I’m 70 to get to enjoy my life ew.” But I was met with #lazymillenial. Luckily I didn’t listen to the naysayers and listened to my gut, “what excites you the most in life?” Travel. So I did. But you need money to travel (more on that later)
The new way is all about enjoying to fruits of your labor, getting paid while you sleep, taking a vacation, actually spending time with family and doing whatever the flip it is you want to do with your TIME.
Sometimes I feel like we need to get rid of the white elephant in the room, cut the bullshit, and call a spade a spade. It’s about time people let go of their attachments regarding the new way and understood it for what it really is. The business of the 21st century… and in my words. “The business that pays you to be a human.“
Think about it like this…you get a job offer, they tell you what your salary will be, the amount of PTO you, personal days, sick days etc. The whole thing. Your income is capped that’s it. Maybe you get a year-end bonus and a raise every year (which isn’t that much but it’s something right?). I want to give you a new perspective. You start a side hustle. And I call it a side hustle because in the beginning that’s what it is. It’s something you do in addition to your day job, with the end goal for this side hustle to then replace your full time income so that you can make your side hustle your career, so that then you can start living life on your own terms.
This ‘side hustle’ you choose your own hours, you choose when you get to take a vacation, you choose how much you wanna earn. I say this because it’s important. The amount of money you earn from your side hustle is a direct result from the effort you put in. If you only work some days or ‘whenever you feel like it’ then that’ll show in how much you’re earning. There’s no cap on the amount of money you can earn but you gotta work for it too, it doesn’t happen overnight. So what should I do? How should I get started?
Example- maybe you’re passionate about making charm bracelets. Ok great! RESEARCH! What products do you need? What’s your niche? Is there a need? Go on youtube. Watch tutorials and GET STARTED. But first..don’t go creating a website just yet. Maybe make some examples. Give them to your friends and family. Ask their opinions. Master your craft. Once you feel like you’re ready to start selling and you’ve made enough that you feel you’re ready start selling! Look into ecommerce websites like Etsy, Ebay, Facebook, TikTok, Instagram, Amazon etc. Make your own website. Go to trade shows. Craft shows etc. Get your name out there. Disclaimer- you’re not going to earn 6 figures overnight best to stay away from videos with the title “How I made a million dollars in one year” that’s very unlikely and gives false hope. But if you want it bad enough and you’re willing to put in the work it will happen for you too. Side note- I can give a step by step guide of everything I did to prepare, how I got started and all the good stuff in another post..this is just an example.
Another example for those of you saying, “but I’m not good at making stuff.” ok so maybe you’re good at researching. Maybe you like doing ancestry. Maybe you want to research people’s family trees. That’s a booming business. Maybe your passion is nutrition and diet, or cooking. Put together nutrition plans for people. I don’t know anything! You really can do and create anything. Truly. Think outside the box. This is the new way. And if you don’t use your creative genius in the coming years you will get left behind.
We spend all day every day on our phones. Scrolling aimlessly. What if we use that time instead to create something?
Here’s the thing. Not everyone succeeds in each company and I have a theory as to why some people succeed and some don’t (it has nothing to do with luck). And this again, irons things out and goes to show the importance of TRUE passion in your product/business. When you are SINCERELY passionate about a product, and that product just so happens to have chosen the BEST and mot intelligent distribution method, then YOU HAVE HIT THE JACKPOT! Congratulations on finding a company that will pay you to do WHAT YOU WOULD DO ANYWAY if you didn’t get paid for it. Ask ANY network marketer if they would refer their product regardless of which business model they chose. The answer, for all professional networkers will always be yes.
Here’s the thing though. Creative genius isn’t just passion on fire willy-nilly. It is passion on fire WITH STRUCTURE. There are skills involved. There is leadership involved. No shit!!! There is a lot involved because it is a BUSINESS. Anything you earn money from is a BUSINESS! There are annoying people on IG who spam your TL and appear as a salesman. I get it! And as an entrepreneur this was probably me at the beginning.. (I had no clue what I was doing when I started!). But when you take a step back from the ‘hype’ and the fact that more and more people are catching on.. Then you can see the truth and intelligence behind it.
When you are truly passionate about something and authentic you will shine. People will notice. And some will say “the market is oversaturated now blah blah blah.” Ok but when you are doing something that you truly believe in people will notice. And they will support you. Side note- your audience is not your family/friends. You have to get over the fact that, in the beginning your family/friends probably won’t support you and that’s ok! Because there are people who will. You need to know this right now, if you want to do anything great in your life you need to get over the noise of what other people think. Think of all the greats that came before us. They didn’t get where they are from fear. Imagine if Taylor Swift and Beyonce didn’t write music or become the greatest performers of all time because of “what if people don’t like my music?” NO. They did it DESPITE that fact.
So when you hear people bang on about freedom, and wealth. IT’S REAL. Not everyone achieves the same. Not everyone earns the same amount. It is all EVEN playing field. YOU choose how big you want to build your community, with something you’re passionate about, and you get paid on that!!
And all the other stuff you hear about.. People finding their purpose. People improving relationships.. Well you know? Maybe that’s what happens when people aren’t STUCK anymore. In jobs they HATE and with no TIME for their families. When you can build something and start earning passive income then you will have a platform for excellence in all areas of life. It allows you to build wealth through genuine love of a product or service. It allows you to grow and learn outside the traditional education we’re exposed to. It allows you to choose, really, what you wanna make from it. You can choose how much you earn by the effort you put in to your business by either earning just enough to pay some extra bills OR you can earn enough to quit your full time job and make this ‘side hustle’ your main source of income. You can choose to completely free your family if you choose to. In one year from today what will be different? Where do you want to be in one year? It’s up to you.
When done properly, and with integrity. It is a blessing on this world like no other. It inspires service, huge impact, it solves problems, inspires genuine connection and YES. It does allow people to dream again.
I built a majority of my business at a time when none of my family/friends were doing it. There was a lot of resistance in the beginning but it all made me so much clearer on why I’m doing this. I took a lot of flack for it but I’m so glad I didn’t listen to the naysayers because now I get to travel the world. I want that for you too.
I started to build a culture based on a real vision for others. A Real culture of people who perhaps were sick of just doing it the same. Scraping by. Feeling shit. And perhaps also SICK of listening to what everyone says is the right thing!
The stories I get to see each day of people freeing themselves and their families from the shit- the shit of the worlds opinions, the shit of financial worry and burden, the shit of feeling STUCK! When you get rid of some of the shit, the world opens up. And that’s exactly what this business is to me. It’s an OPPORTUNITY. It’s a CHOICE YOU CAN MAKE.
Entrepreneurship allowed me to travel the world, and live a life of freedom and service. I won’t go into it because I don’t have to. Freedom and contribution says it all. And that is a beautiful place for me to get to function from. I can GIVE endlessly!! I was very clear early on in my journey that I wanted to also find a way to give back (that’s why I created a program called earn more to give more coming soon). I want to be about about beautiful abundance and contribution and service.
Fun. Travel. GIVING. Time with their families. Paying off student loans. Perhaps STILL STUDYING but without the burden of debt! I could go forever. It’s just whatever you choose. BUT… my point here is this there’s a new way. We’re in the golden age where the old way of doing things no longer works. There’s a new way to live, lead, earn and give. This is a huge step in the right direction for evolving human life. I need another post to explain why, oh boy!! 🙂
Entrepreneurship isn’t for everyone. If you don’t understand it, at least don’t judge those who do. Chances are someone you love’s life will be directly or indirectly impacted by someone who has chosen this profession. Just like my life will be directly or indirectly affected by the work you do…
But if you understand it like I understand it… You are in for a very, very beautiful life.
